Initially I was planning on using the most recently uploaded source, which is SHNID 118342. However, I decided after some consideration to give a listen to the much older SHNID 16869, which is in that old SHN format.
I’m glad I decided to listen to both. 118342 sounds a bit muffled, and Jerry’s vocals sound distant. 16869 sounds really nice and clear, though the very beginning of a few songs are very slightly clipped.
Don’t overlook the old sources.
Reputation
Other than the fact that this is a 1983 Jerry Garcia Band show, there’s not much reputation to speak of.
Discussion
Is 1983 the greatest year in the history of the Jerry Garcia Band? There are great tour runs in 1980 and 1981, Reconstruction in 1979 sounds great, the old Legion of Mary days are great, the Nicky Hopkins shows have their moments — but I suspect that 1983 might be the most consistent year. What do you think?
