Sources
There are a few versions of this show to choose from.
The audience recordings are a little bit lacking. SHNID 149660 is a bit distant, and starts partway through the first track. This is apparently because the taper was busted at the start of the show, but managed to get into a place in the balcony anyway. SHNID 135492 is a fairly good FOB recording; its mate, SHNID 135493, is clearly from further back, and the vocal clarity suffers.
I went with SHNID 20657, a soundboard that has quite a few issues. There’s a bit of blast, the tracks clearly were not mixed for recording, and Jerry’s vocals seem a little bit too hot.
Even the lesser sources sound good, however. This is a good show that overcomes all technical problems.
Reputation
As I’ve said before, 1983 was a great year for the Jerry Garcia Band. I’ve yet to hear a bad show.
That being said, I’m not aware of any reviews of this show specifically. This is a hidden gem; it’s a show that really should be better known.
Discussion
This is one of those rare times where they played a song twice. How Sweet It Is is the first song of the first show, and also the first encore in the second show. At least two sources confirm that this is the case.
I’m not sure how frequent that was for the Jerry Garcia Band.
