Unfortunate Cut
This is one of those really unfortunate tapes.
It’s a brilliant tape, by the way. The Grateful Dead sound absolutely on fire in this set. The Dark Star is great, the St. Stephen into The Eleven is legendary — and then we get to Caution.
And then there’s a big gap in the tape.
It’s not awful, of course. You can still listen to it. But, man, how I wish this one were more complete.
The only version of this tape is SHNID 8993, which was digitized so long ago that it’s in SHN format. I’m not aware of any other versions. It’s supposedly a first generation tape, though there’s a lot more hiss than there should be for a first generation recording.
Anyway, this recording is just under 1 hour. I think the full set was probably about 1 hour 10 minutes or so. And I just wish we had more.
